LVN Online

If you have ever been interested in nursing, then you are aware of the different degrees available today. You may have come across the acronym LVN and it may have left you wondering what this degree actually entails. LVN or Licensed Vocational Nurse is just a different title for the same license as the LPN or Licensed Practical Nurse. Forty eight of the fifty states utilize the title Licensed Practical Nurse, while Texas and California use the title Licensed Vocational Nurse.

Requirements

The degrees are virtually the same and the job responsibilities mirror each other. If you complete this degree in either Texas or California, then your title will be an LVN. The education options remain the same for either title also, you may take the traditional route, or if it fits in your life better there are LPN or LVN online classes.

While the LPN/LVN can be used as a stepping stone to an RN degree, it holds its own value. Nurses are in great demand, making this, and most any other nursing degree, a stable and secure career choice. LVN online courses are available through a number of institutions. The only requirement for entrance in to one of these programs is a high school diploma or a GED.

After being accepted one will spend one to two years in school. Online classes can be taken through web conferences, teleconferences or prerecorded/ typed lecture. Many state boards require that the student take a set number of hours in the clinical field. To attain these requirements a student will be assigned to a participating institution that offers training in the field.

Program Curriculum

The courses required in the LVN programs are similar to those offered in a LPN program. Some included LVN online courses are; drug administration, some math, biology, anatomy and physiology and nutrition. This is just a sampling of the required courses, to see an actual curriculum, visit an accredited online school.

In addition to the academic classes there are also practical nursing skills that will be taught. A few of these include; CPR and stabilization of a trauma patient, a stroke victim or someone suffering from cardiac arrest. Following the completion of this course work a student must sit for the NCLEX- PN exam to be licensed in their state.

A Registered Nursing license is easy to achieve after you have completed your LVN online courses. There are multiple options to go from LVN to RN or LVN to BSN. In either case you will use the skills and knowledge you gained from your practical nursing education and apply it to the RN program of your choice. Accredited programs will allow you to transfer class work credits toward you next degree.
