A number of LPN Schools in Illinois (Licensed Practical Nurse) offer courses in the field at different levels. Many Community Colleges in the state have baccalaureate and degree programs, while universities offer doctorate, masters, baccalaureate, associate, diploma and practical nursing education programs. The US Department of Education allows institutions of higher learning to regulate their courses voluntarily. However, it officially recognizes two main bodies that provide accreditation for nursing studies: The National League of Nursing Accreditation Commission and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. The former non-governmental body accredits over forty public and private institutions in the Prairie State. The latter one accredits over thirty institutions in the state, albeit some schools have accreditation from both organizations. Community colleges accredited by NLNAC mostly offer baccalaureate, LPN and LVN programs, that take about a year to complete. On the other hand, CCNE normally accredits colleges, universities and medical institutions, to provide higher-level associate to doctorate degree programs, to students.
