LPN Degree Online

Will an LPN degree online enable you to qualify for licensure? Most definitely. The NCLEX-PN test, which every graduate of a practical nursing school undergoes, does not discriminate between a campus education and online education.

Wary of online degrees

The only difference between a college education earned on campus and an lpn degree online is the commute to attend class. Well, the costs are slightly different, too.

Even when most of the everyday things we do are dependent on computers and technology, there remain skeptics wary of earning their lpn degrees through the internet.

Relax, folks. The same quality and level of education is provided whether you attend regular classes in school or complete your modules online. What you need to check out is that the programs you are taking are accredited.

And so it goes with an LPN degree online. The thing to remember is you can't complete the entire program just through the internet. Why? Because a big chunk of the training requires applying the nursing theories learned online.

Clinical training

The better LPN schools will arrange for their online students to be accommodated in health facilities for their internship. That could be a hospital, a nursing home, a private clinic or some other medical facility. Otherwise, prepare to make arrangements yourself with a nearby community hospital or medical clinic.

The practical component or clinical training of all LPN degree programs is always supervised, either by a professional LPN or a registered nurse, who has authority over LPNs.

Online LPN degrees can either be the two-year associate program or a certificate program that can be completed in one year. Both still require passing the licensure exam.

Completing your LPN training quickly

If you wish to fast-track your LPN degree online you can check if there are tests in certain subjects you can take (for a minimal fee) to do away with them. Chances are you may have completed these subjects before and have adequate knowledge about them.

Another strategy is to take three to five classes each term, allotting at least three to four hours everyday for online classes, plus another hour or two for homework.

Whether you pursue your LPN degree online or on campus, remember it is a popular field and competition for admission is stiff. Be sure to have all your documentation in order because these will have to be submitted during application even for online programs.

If you are determined to become a licensed practical nurse and prefer a non-traditional education, an LPN degree online is your best bet.
